My Henna Experience

A few Benefits of Henna:
Naturally colours the hair without chemicals
Henna deposits pigments on the hair giving the appearance of thicker strands
Shinier/ Glossier Hair
Strengthens the strands as it acts similarly to a protein treatment

Mixture:
Henna Powder
Hot Water
2 tablespoons Coconut Cream/ Coconut Milk
Herbal Essences Totally Twisted Conditioner
1 tablespoon Apple Cider Vinegar
2 tablespoons Olive Oil
1 teaspoon Castor Oil
2 drops of Peppermint Oil

Directions:
1) Mix the water and the henna powder until it becomes a paste
2)Add the rest of the mixture stirring as you go
3)Cover and leave to sit (I left mine about 3 1/2 hrs, some leave there's over night)
4)Apply to hair in sections (wet or dry, I apply to dry to minimise mess)
5)Cover your hair with a shower cap/plastic bag
6)Rinse out with conditioner (shampoo is said to cause tangles and turn your hair into hay)

Outcome:
I used henna for the first time over a year ago and it dried out my hair badly. I previously used henna and coconut milk. Through research I saw that others were adding extra ingredients so decided to experiment. Thankfully, my new mixture did not dry out my hair, Amen!! I wasn't sold on Henna initially but now I definitely see the benefits. My hair is noticeably stronger, my strands appear to be thicker and my hair is definitely glossier. The henna tinted my hair a reddish colour on my relaxed ends which were previously brown and added a slight browny tint on my natural hair. Despite the benefits of henna it is extremely messy!! To make the mess element worse... it stains! On my previous application I got some on the bathroom floor and it took months of scrubbing for it to fade. If you don't mind the mess then, I strongly recommend henna. I paid 99p for a box at a local Indian supermarket, great value. Be sure to buy Body Art Quality, the henna for hair is normally mixed with chemicals. Will I be using henna again? Yes, but not anytime soon, the mess is not my portion!

Thanks for reading, let me know your experiences with henna :)
