Quick Hair Tip #1

#1 Keep Your Nails Groomed

What do my nails have to with my hair? :S... some of you are probably thinking. I am sure I'm not the only one who has snagged hair in the process of styling/washing on a jagged nail or chipped nail polish! By keeping your nails intact you will save a few strands... believe me, I know.

Has this happened to you? Do you have any hair tips?

A Sneak Peek

I cut a tiny section of my relaxed hair off!!! I have been dying to see what my hair would look like without the relaxed ends, because I always read 'you only see your real texture after you chop'...  but I just couldn't bring myself to cut a section. So what happened.. I hear you ask. Well it was one late evening and I was preparing my hair for bed, when I noticed a tangle *gasp*, unable to salvage any hair, I decided to snip all the relaxed hair off the two coils. Guys it felt so GOOD, it was liberating!! I know in my last post I said that I find the idea of cutting my relaxed ends off daunting, I guess I've changed my mind. The temptation to cut has definitely returned, I am definitely excited for the final product!!! (I'm just not excited enough to do my whole head)

1 year post relaxer

I am officially one year post relaxer *throws confetti* I can't believe it, my last relaxer was on the 7th April 2012, where did the year go? Gone are the days, where I couldn't go more than 2-3 months without a relaxer!... Replaced by days, where I can't go more than 2-3 minutes without playing with my new growth!!! Thinking back to my last relaxer makes me slightly nostalgic, but I have no regrets, and no intention of going back. I plan to transition for another 10 months, I'm so excited, although between me and you, the thought of cutting off my relaxed ends is daunting  >___<... I guess I'll cross that bridge when I come to it. For now, I'll continue to enjoy my transition, and continue to look forward to the versatility that my soon to be natural hair has to offer !!!  Below are pictures taken of my hair today after I washed it.

Are you an Ingredient Snob?

One of the first things you learn, on any type of hair journey is to check the ingredients of your products. Does it have cones ? Does it have sulphates? Does it have alcohol? Does it have petroleum, does it have Blah Blah Blah? It can be very overwhelming, to say the least. What used to be a quick care free trip to buy hair products, turns into a lengthy exercise, consisting of carefully analysing ingredients. I don't know about you, but I couldn't tell what half the ingredients were, and google wasn't much help either, who knew searching for hair products could be so difficult. I wanted to improve the health of my hair, and going for wholly natural products seemed like the way forward. I experimented with oils, made a whipped Shea butter mix, tried a black tea rinse, got banana stuck in my hair from a homemade treatment... you name it. I had this misconception that products with natural ingredients were better for my hair, but it's not necessarily true, I've experienced breakage from products with and without natural ingredients. In no way am I against natural/organic products, personally I'd love to find staples with great ingredients, I'm merely stating that, just because it's natural doesn't mean it's automatically good for you.

Review: Bee Mine BEE-U-Ti-FUL Deep Conditioner

Promise: BEE•U•Ti•FUL Moisturizing Deep Conditioner; our first protein-free deep conditioner that helps to detangle your hair and provide excellent manageability. This deep conditioner is made with creamy and emollient Cupuacu butter, to promote smooth and soft hair while boosting the rebirth of the hair's natural moisture and elasticity. Highly beneficial for dry and damaged hair. BEE•U•Ti•FUL also provides some protection from damaging UV-A and UV-B rays and helps to restore shine and moisture to stressed hair.

Directions: After Shampooing gently & even massage a generous amount of Bee*u*ti*ful into palms and spread evenly from root to ends of hair. Cover hair with a warm towel or a plastic cap for 10 mins. Rinse hair thoroughly with water and style as desired

Ingredients: Distilled water, Cetearyl Alcohol, BTMS (mild emulsifier), 100% unrefined Shea Butter, 100% Organic Coconut Oil, Capauacu Butter, Calendula Extract, Chamomile Extract, Organic Raw Honey, Liquid Germall Plus (Paraben Free), Fragrance (Phthalate Free)

Verdict: After all the hype I heard about this deep conditioner, I was expecting 'liquid gold', but instead I  got 'gold plated'... catch my drift? It's much better than the Creme of Nature Professional Moisture Extreme Conditioner, that I recently reviewed, but at the same time, it's nothing to write home about. Out of 5, I think I would give this a 3.5. After use, it left my hair feeling reasonably soft without fail, the smell is pleasant, the texture is nice and creamy, and a little goes a fair way.... BUT it lacked slip, if you're looking for a detangler, this is not it!!! The price is a major let down, had it been cheaper, it would have got a 4/5. I bought the 2oz sample size for £4.50 from british curlies, the next size up is 8oz for £15.00. Personally, I don't like to feel like I'm taking out a mortgage buying one product, I'm on a student budget... Did I mention that £4.50, does not include post and packaging? Would I buy this again, possibly, but it won't be a staple.

ps. I got a new camera, can you tell?
